1994 Rwandan Genocide Essay Example for Free

1994 Rwandan Genocide Essay ? The 1994 Rwandan Genocide affected on many individuals in various manners. In this paper the causes I will cover are ethnic strain because of Belgium Colonization, Propaganda and despise talk, the job of the worldwide network, and political issues. The results I will cover are causalities, the financial impacts, recognition and instruction, and populace relocation. In this little nation in Africa called Rwanda this horrible murdering occurred. The Rwandan Genocide started on April sixth 1994 when the president was killed, trailed by the prime minster the following day. It kept going 100 days, â€Å"100 long stretches of slaughter† finishing on the eighteenth of July 1994. The destruction included numerous gatherings. The culprits were †Hutu regular citizens, Hutu armed force, Interhamwe-the young people of Hutu sorted out into a fanatic volunteer army, and radio RTLM-a radio broadcast reporting to execute all Tutsis. Casualties included †Tutsi, Hutu political conservatives for instance prime minster AgatheUwilingiyimana. Different gatherings incorporate †RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Front). President Juvenal Habyarimana who was in control if the Hutu government, and the universal network for instance the UN (United Nations) Peacekeepers. During these 100 days of butcher a huge number of Tutsi we killed. Ladies and young ladies we assaulted, and many tormented by having their bosom cleaved off and sharp articles embedded into their vaginas. Numerous individuals attempted to rear in schools and places of worship however were found and executed. I have recently expounded on the unique circumstance and the course of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. I am presently going to compose the reasons for this terrible occasion beginning with ethnic pressure because of Belgium Colonization. Ethnic strain because of Belgium Colonization is apparently the greatest reason in the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. It is a political and social reason that occurred over a significant stretch of time. Beginning in 1860 and coming directly down to 1926. In 1860 the principal Tutsi lord was delegated. In 1884 German traveler Carl Peters enters the Rwandan realm and gets bargain rights. In 1885 Germany pronounces a protectorate over present-day Rwanda. In 1890 Rwanda acknowledges German pilgrim rule with obstruction. A German regional director isn't selected until 1907. In 1916 WW1 Belgium Allied Forces catch German East Africa. In 1924 Great Britten accept power over Tanzania, while Belgium is conceded trusteeship over Rwanda and Burundi. Belgium Colonization starts. In 1926 Rwandans were given a personality card appearing if an individual was Hutu, Tutsi or Twa. Before colonization individuals could ‘jump’ races e. g. Hutu’s could become Tutsi’s. Calipers were the apparatuses of colonization. The size of the noggin and nose and the shade of the eyes were the components that decided if an individual was a Hutu, Tutsi or Twa. The aftereffect of the uncalled for framework was †Tutsi could have government positions, be proprietors, be directors of Hutu, gather charges, get instruction (no one but Tutsi could go to class after the colonization), be a manager for the equity framework. Hutu were denied advanced education, land proprietorship and positions in government. The character cards that everybody was given were clear they had what ethnic gathering they were from, their place of birth, their date of birth, their calling, their place of habitation, the name of their life partner, their C. I number, and their mark. A statement structure boss investigator of the worldwide Rwandan court summarizes this reason well â€Å"European pioneer history was a significant supporter of what in the long run turned into the decimation in Rwanda†. The second reason I will talk about is Propaganda and abhor talk. This is a social Cause; it is present moment since it happened very quick after the demise of the president and prime minster. Kangura Newspaper was a paper about how examining the Tutsis were, this was propelled by first woman AgatheHabyarimana in 1990. Kangura implies wake them up in English. In the paper they had supremacist remarks, for example, â€Å"They look like creatures, really they are animals†, â€Å"If you permit snakes to live among you, you will be exterminated†, â€Å"They look frightful with their ragged hair and facial hair that are loaded with fleas†. RTLM (Radio Television des Milles Collines) or usually known as â€Å"Hate Radio†, utilized great exciting music to get individuals to hear it out then they utilized in to pass on disdainful messages, for example, â€Å"cut down the tall trees† this implied for all Hutu radicals to clear out the Tutsis. RTLM frequently alluded to Tutsi as cockroaches. In 1990 Kangura paper distributed the 10 charges for the Hutus they were an all-encompassing variant of 1, Every Hutu must realize that the Tutsi lady is working for the Tutsi ethnic reason Hutu is a deceiver who an) Acquires a Tutsi spouse, b)Acquires a Tutsi mistress, c) Acquires a Tutsi partisan or protegee. 2, Every Hutu must realize that our Hutu girls are increasingly commendable and progressively faithful as a lady, as spouses and as moms. 3, Hutu ladies, be cautious and ensure that your spouses, siblings and children see reason. , All Hutus must realize that all Tutsis are exploitative in business. We have taken in this for a fact for a fact. Hutu is a double crosser who a) structures a business union with a Tutsi, b) puts resources into own assets/open assets in a Tutsi venture, c) Borrows cash from/advances cash to a Tutsi, d) Grants favors to Tutsis. 5, Strategic positions, for example, governmental issues, organization, fin ancial matters the military and security must be limited to Hutu. 6, A Hutu lion's share must win all through the instruction framework. 7. The Rwandan Army must be only Hutu. No Solider may wed Tutsi ladies. 8, Hutu must quit having compassion for the Tutsi. 9, Hutu any place they are must stand joined together, in solidarity, and worried about the destiny of their Hutu siblings. Hutu should continually counter Tutsi purposeful publicity. Hutu must stand firm and careful against their shared adversary. The Tutsi. 10, The social Revolution of 1959, the Referendum of 1961 and the Hutu Ideology must be instructed to Hutu of each age. Hutu must get the message out. Any Hutu who oppresss his sibling Hutu for getting the message out and encouraging this belief system is a swindler. A statement from Leon Mugesera summarizes this reason â€Å"The deadly slip-up we made in 1959 was to let them escape †¦ they are outsiders from Ethiopia so we will send them by the most limited course tossing them into the Nagbarongo waterway. We should act. Wipe them all out†. The third reason I will examine is the job of the global network; it is a political reason that is a present moment since it turned into an issue not long after the colonization. During this reason the world just remained by and viewed. Following WW11 and the Holocaust, The United Nations received a goals on December 9, 1948, which expressed â€Å"genocide, regardless of whether carried out in time of harmony or time of war, is a wrongdoing under worldwide law which they embrace to forestall and to punish†. There were two chances to mediate that were missed. In October 1993 The United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda started with the arrangement of 21 soldiers under the order of Brigadier †General Romeo Allaire of Canada. Extra soldiers proceeded with o show up until February 1994, when the mission was completely set up with 25,000 work force. Numerous officers showed up without weapons, food or water; vehicles and radios were conveyed second hand from different missions and infrequently in working condition. On eleventh January 1994 Officers were storing weapons and preparing regular citizen civilian armies; the degree of readiness would empower the homicide of 1000 Tutsis like clockwork. This idiom will polish off this reason pleasantly, â€Å"clearly, the slaughters in Rwanda comprised destruction, so why didn’t the world steep into stop it? In my fourth and last reason I’m going to talk about political issues (the job of the Hutu radicals in the Habyarimana government and the impetus). This is a political reason which was present moment. President Juvenal Habyarimana came to control through a military overthrow in 1973. He guaranteed national solidarity. By 1994 numerous Rwandans were calling for majority rule government. In January 1994 regardless of expanded state mistreatment and the French-bolstered up-work of military, 50,000 Rwandans walked in a genius majority rules system show in Kigali. The development to the Hutu’s needing power is over a significant brief time of time†¦ just 3 years! In October 1990 common war began when the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a civilian army of Rwandan Tutsi exceeds expectations and Hutu protesters situated in Uganda, attacked Rwanda. A great many Tutsis were captured. In 1991 RPF military triumphs constrained President Habyarimana into drafting another multi-party constitution. In 1992 UN drove harmony talks drove between the RPF, The Rwanda government and 12 resistance groups to attempt to accomplish a force sharing understanding. In August 1993 Arusha Peace Accords were marked to unbiased Tanzania. Hutu Power’ began broadcasting Tutsi abhor messages in the media. In 1993 A Hutu Power Party no taking part in the administration built up Radio/TV Libre de Millie Collines (RTLM) to get round the Arusha understandings unequivocal forbiddance on government supported abhor discourse. I has been accepted that the ‘ final nail in coffin’ was the rendezvous of P inhabitant Habyarimana. At 8. 30p. m on April 6, 1994, President Juvenal Habyarimana of Rwanda was coming back from a highest point in Tanzania where, under global tension, he was haggling with the resistance to arrive at a settlement. A surface-to-air rocket shot the plane out of the sky. All ready were slaughtered. I have quite recently expounded on the reasons for the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, I am currently going to expound on the results of the ‘100 long stretches of slaughter’. Beginning with causalities. The

Case Study †An Ethical Dilemma Essay

Jackie, a youthful star with a noticeable voice who gets got by an expert account mark subsequent to performing at a national ability rivalry. Overpowered with energy, thinks it is a fantasy worked out as expected to begin a vocation with a rewarding agreement. Meets and has a personal experience with her prospective supervisor, Kevin. Months pass by as their relationship prospers however soon she begins to hear gossipy tidbits that Kevin has helped another young lady in the legitimate division get her position tossed their very own relations. Jackie has doubts that Kevin might be having other more profound communications with this new young lady. Jackie’s doubts end up being valid and she is crushed. She clearly severs the relationship with Kevin yet can't bear to lose him as her director. Time passes by with ungainly quiet between the two however in the long run Jackie chooses to be proficient with her profession and keeps on keeping Kevin on as her director. This endures for a spell until Kevin begins to make wrong lewd gestures towards her. She attempts to ignore it yet as he proceeds with she takes steps to submit a conventional question to legitimate. He does inevitably stop however has halted all endeavors to advance her music along these lines making it exceptionally hard for her to proceed with her prosperity. She in the end decides to submit a question with legitimate, there is the place she runs into Leslie, the young lady that Kevin had got the situation for in lawful. She advises her, â€Å"even I trusted you, you didn’t report this relationship which conflicts with our boss representative morals code†. So it is possible that she had the decision to release the issue or to submit a question which would thus have her likewise condemned. She is constrained withâ an extreme choice and in the end chooses to sit idle. Summed up Ethical Issue on a fundamental level The untrustworthy issue on a fundamental level is the administrator, Kevin, making wrong motions towards Jackie after they had separated. Doing as such with Jackie’s defenseless situation of whether to report the issue which would accomplish more mischief than anything. Or then again to disregard the issue and simply trust that Kevin would disregard her. Neither one of the options are more qualified for Jackie who for this situation is the person in question, which prompts the topic of suitable moral obligation of the organization. Subtleties that are absent for the situation An outsider point of view on the subtleties of the two gatherings. More detail with regards to what allegations were being made towards Kevin and Jackie. Regardless of whether Kevin had appropriate moral preparing. Rundown of all partners who might be engaged with this moral predicament. Workers Different craftsmen Leading group of Trustees Financial specialists Lawful Department Clients Network Media Three partners and the worries they may have. Workers Don’t like how they are functioning for a deceptively solid organization. Figuring how it could transpire in the event that they were placed in a similar circumstance If theâ problem was ever constructed open how might my professional stability look? Would this company’s name stain my resume? Speculators In what capacity will my portfolio look if this craftsman is to get fruitful with another maker? Will this story become open? Will my offers fall from this company’s terrible exposure? What might befall the organization viewpoint if the whole organization was to go through appropriate corporate moral preparing? Might it be able to be a triumph? Leading body of Trustees This will look awful if the story was to made open How should will it cost to perform appropriate corporate preparing on legitimate moral conduct? Do the administrative levels should be rethought? Could the organization be taking a gander at a claim? Five arrangements. Perform corporate preparing at all levels looking into legitimate moral direct Fire the director Exercise an undisclosed settlement Check whether another director is accessible to take her on Leave and attempt to discover triumphs somewhere else Top three arrangements with potential outcomes. 1. Perform corporate preparing at all levels, screen it and have representatives approve controlling polices that are being actualized viewing predominant worker relations just as all other regular moral practices. Doesn’t truly tackle the current issue, might be useful for the future yet doesn’t help Jackie Company sets open discernment that their moral guidelines are being referred to Very opportune and exorbitant Danger of representatives losing interest/conceivable turnover of workers 2. Fire and Replace the Manager May get sued by Kevin for unfair end Jackie’s verbal dangers may proceed Episode is probably going to be made open Leading body of Trustees would need to investigate all administration positions Loss of every positive benefit that Kevin may have obtained 3. Exercise an undisclosed settlement Exorbitant Sets a standard for future wrong doings May not remain calm Individual representatives or potentially craftsman may practice more investigation as they develop on with their activity Three Stakeholders and Top Three Solutions with two professionals and two cons impacts on the Stakeholder. Make organization representatives take corporate preparing on legitimate moral conduct Will profit the company’s by and large execution Give the media something other than what's expected to discuss with respect to the organization Very expensive Workers may decrease to take it/conceivable representative turnover Fire and Replace the Manager Jackie would be fulfilled The organization would have a terrible worker discharged Individual craftsmen may lose that name Administrator could sue for improper end Exercise an undisclosed sum Jackie would be upbeat and the issue would be settled Remains calm Expensive Takes care of no future issues Two moral standards maintained or abused by the best three arrangements. Make organization workers take corporate preparing on legitimate moral conduct Gives positive respectability to the organization For whatever length of time that the preparation gave was paid hours it shouldn’t be found in any capacity of being deceptive Trust and Communication Fire and Replace the Manager Neglects to fulfill moral guidelines just in light of the fact that insufficient data is referred to Unethical towards the representatives as some could out of nowhere be placed into an impediment Work out an undisclosed sum Totally deceptive from the remainder of the company’s outlook as this choice would be odd and fill no need towards the remainder of the organization Financially dishonest to utilize assets to fill in as a settlement as opposed to different motivations behind the organization Performing corporate preparing at all levels, observing it and have representatives approve directing polices that are being actualized seeing predominant worker relations just as all other basic moral practices will give positive honesty to the organization. On the off chance that the preparation hours were paid and it didn’t affect every day schedule then it doesn’t appear to be deceptive to demand preparing hours. Terminating the supervisor Kevin would take care of Jackie’s issue yet just hers alone. To be reasonable which is a standard ofâ ethics is execute a code that would profit the organization overall. Despite the fact that what Kevin is blamed for doing is justified of being terminated there sufficiently isn’t data for the organization to release him. Her words against his wouldn’t be sufficient to fire him. This is the reason a patch up of full corporate preparing most likely stands to be the most ideal answer for this circumstance. Choice and Implementation Recognize the best arrangement. Actualizing corporate preparing all through the whole staff of the organization perhaps represent considerable authority in explicit zones would be well on the way to be the most ideal arrangement. There are much more advantages to teaching workers on appropriate morals. A work environment where a morals code has been ingrained is a normally wonderful spot. Representative spirit ascends in a climate that advances great conduct and fair collaborations. Reasons why this is the best arrangement. It makes a superior climate in the working environment, shows an office how to fill in as a group, advances moral duty, and has consistently appeared to support staff resolve. A hard working attitudes preparing program advances collaboration by ingraining trust in associates. Individuals are bound to be agreeable to cooperating when they acknowledge and regard each other. Why different arrangements were dismissed Terminating the supervisor Kevin just as making an undisclosed settlement were seen as deceptive towards different individuals from the organization. It would not be a genuine guide to set if the organization were to single out an occurrence and act in a sporadic manner towards that issue. There additionally wasn’t enough realities to the case to settle on the choice to fire the supervisor, Kevin. Particularly doing so realizing beyond any doubt it would influence different partners. Potential issues with the arrangement The organization may find that worker may whine that they don't have to partake in preparing. An obligatory prerequisite may should be actualized for all representatives. A turnover rate inside the representatives might be seen. Financial specialists or Board of Trustees will take a gander at all roads of the least expensive technique for actualizing preparing. How might you defeat these complaints? Make it a prerequisite to accomplish a specific number of morals preparing hours. Find different roads of subsidizing that can add to the program to ensure that representatives are getting the best preparing. Self-perpetrated preparing from the administrative level is a less expensive strategy to educate representatives. References Moral Dilemma. (n.d.). Forbes. Top 10 Application Tips #9 Tracking and Communication COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog

Top 10 Application Tips #9 â€" Tracking and Communication COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - SIPA Admissions Blog This is the 9th entry in our series entitled Top 10 Application Tips.   I highly recommend that you take the time to slowly read this entry as it will answer many of the questions we have been receiving by email.   I know it is a little long, but hang in there because this entry will help you to understand how you can track what is going on with your application after it has been submitted. Do please note that you cannot change any information on your application after it has been submitted. Also, and I cannot emphasize this enough, when an application becomes complete in our system has no impact on the decision. What does matter is that all application information is submitted by the deadline. It is normal for us NOT to have all applications completed for up to three weeks past the deadline.   We manually review each application for completion and this takes time. Do not panic if you log in after you have submitted your application and see that it is not marked as complete.   The Committee does not start to meet until three weeks after the deadline and there are reading rounds so to speak.   By this I mean that not all readers read at the same time and thus not all applications need to be ready at the same time.   Thus if your application is not complete until well after the deadline this is not something to be concerned about. When your application is complete you will receive an email from us letting you know.   If there is an issue with your application that needs to be addressed we will contact you. Now on to the visuals . . . #1 :   You Are Working On Your Application But Have Not Submitted It Let us start with what you see when you log in to the application system while your application is in progress and has not been submitted.   This is what you will see when you log in.   Note that next to Submission Status it says Not Submitted (at the end of the red arrow).   In this example, the applicant has also entered the names of the three recommenders and they are displayed, along with the status. #2:   You Have Submitted Your Application Now lets move on to when you submit your application.   When you log into your application after it has been submitted the main page will show the message Submission Status: Submitted (see arrow #1). You will also notice in this example that one letter of recommendation has been submitted (see arrow #2). At this point no documents will show up.   Do not worry, this is because we have not printed your application yet. #3:   We Print Your Application This Does Not Typically Happen The Same Day You Submit The next step that will occur is that we will print your application for review.   Do understand that it can take up to 15 days for us to print your application after it has been submitted.   Please do not panic if your application has not been printed. The important thing is not when your application is printed, the important thing is that your application is submitted by the deadline. If you look at this next picture you will notice two changes from the picture above.   First, the status has changed to Application Printed Manual Review of All Information Submitted In Progress (see the red arrow #1). Second, arrow #2 shows that we have not marked your application as complete because we have not finished our manual review.   We need to make sure we can read your transcripts for example. Third, you will notice that transcripts, test scores, and other supporting documents now appear (see red arrow #3).   Please note that the default status for the following documents, if you uploaded a document, at the time your application is printed is Received Official Academic Resume International Fellows Program Essay Personal Statement Standard/CV Resume We find that the vast majority of our applicants submit documents that are legible and complete so the default status is Received Official. Do note that in some cases there are issues with these documents and if so, we will contact you. Special Note: the IFP statement is not mandatory and if you did not submit an IFP statement it might not appear, or if it does appear it could read Not Applicable, Not Received, or Waived. Above the Other Supporting Documents section you will see test scores.   Please note that the default status for the test scores at the time your application is printed is Not Received even if you entered the scores.   This is the same for transcripts the status after we print will read Not Received. After we manually review your application this information will be tracked.   If there is an issue we will contact you. Please do not panic at the message Not Received even if you self reported your scores and uploaded your transcripts this is normal. We find that some applicants will not enter all of the information so we will perform a manual check to make sure we have all of the information we need.   Also remember that we do not look for official test reports until after admission offers are made WE ONLY USE SELF REPORTED SCORES to make admission decisions so please do not contact us at this point in time to see if we have your official scores on file. In the above example the native language of the applicant is English so TOEFL is marked Not Applicable.   If this were an applicant that speaks English as a second language this will read Not Received. The last comment for this example is, please ignore the message on the bottom near arrow #4 that says Submission Status: Not Submitted.   That references a part of the application we no longer use but it is hard coded into the system it means nothing. #4:   Complete All Documents Tracked But Not Sent to Committee This next picture shows that we have everything we need.   All the letters are submitted and we accept unofficial transcripts and self reported test scores for admission review.   However the status shows Incomplete and above that you will notice is still says Manual Review of All Information Submitted in Progress. A final sign off must be made before the file gets sent off to the Committee and this one is just waiting. #5:   Complete . . . But with a Question This next shot shows you the message Documents still pending Application is Under Review with the Application Status below that reads Complete. This is a case where we have everything we need, however there may be an issue we feel we need to resolve before the file is sent to the Committee.   There is no need for you to contact us if you are in this status.   If there is a question we need to ask you, we will contact you. #6:   Complete Sent to Committee! This final shot is when you know your application has been sent to Committee.   You will also receive an email from us when your file is complete in case you do not want to compulsively log into the system to keep checking =) You can see on the top that it states Application Complete No additional documents.   As a reminder, please ignore the submission status at the bottom.   Last year our application was in two parts and it is not possible for us to get rid of that message at this time.   It means nothing so ignore it. Thank you for your patience as we work to complete several thousand files in a short period of time.   If documents were submitted by mail it will likely take us longer to complete your file.   Again, when a file is complete has no impact on the decision of the Committee. Please keep reading this blog for more details on the admission review process.

Amur Leopard Facts

The Far Eastern or Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is one of the worlds most endangered cats. It is a solitary, nocturnal leopard with a wild population estimated at over 84 individuals who mostly reside in the Amur River basin of eastern Russia with a few scattered in neighboring China and in a relatively new refuge established in 2012. They are particularly vulnerable to extinction because Amur leopards have the lowest levels of genetic variation of any leopard subspecies. Fast Facts: Amur Leopard Scientific Name: Panthera pardus orientalisCommon Names: Amurland leopard, Far Eastern leopard,  Manchurian leopard, Korean leopardBasic Animal Group:  MammalSize: 25–31 inches at the shoulder, 42–54 inches longWeight: 70–110 poundsLifespan: 10–15  yearsDiet:  CarnivoreHabitat:  Primorye region of southeastern Russia and northern ChinaPopulation:  More than 80Conservation  Status: Critically Endangered Description The Amur leopard is a subspecies of leopard with a thick coat of long, dense hair varying in color from creamy yellow to rusty orange, depending on their habitat. Amur leopards in the snowier Amur River Basin of Russia develop lighter coats in the winter and tend to have more cream-colored coats than their Chinese kin. Their rosettes (spots) are more widely spaced with thicker black borders than other subspecies of leopards. They also have larger legs and wider paws than other subspecies, an adaptation that facilitates movement through deep snow.   Both males and females range in height between 25 to 31 inches at the shoulder and are typically 42 to 54 inches long. Their tales measure approximately 32 inches in length. Males are typically heavier at 70 to 110 pounds while females typically weigh 55 to 75 pounds.   Thomas Kitchin Victoria Hurst/Getty Images Habitat and Range Amur leopards can survive in temperate forest and mountain regions, keeping mostly to south-facing rocky slopes in winter (where less snow accumulates). Individuals territories can range from 19 to 120 square miles, depending upon age, sex, and prey density—the latter of which has greatly diminished in recent years, though they are on increase in protected areas. Historically, Amur leopards have been found in eastern China, southeastern Russia, and throughout the Korean Peninsula. The first known documentation was a skin found by German zoologist Hermann Schlegel in 1857 in Korea.  More recently, the few remaining leopards are scattered throughout approximately 1,200 square miles in the area where the borders of Russia, China, and North Korea meet the Sea of Japan. Today, Amur leopards are increasing in numbers, due to the creation of protected areas and other conservation efforts. Diet and Behavior The Amur leopard is a strictly carnivorous predator that primarily hunts roe and sika deer but will also eat wild boar, Manchurian wapiti, musk deer, and moose. It will opportunistically prey on hares, badgers, raccoon dogs, fowl, mice, and even young Eurasian black bears. Reproduction and Offspring Amur leopards reach reproductive maturity between the ages of two and three years. Females estrus period last from 12 to 18 days with gestation taking approximately 90 to 95 days. Cubs are typically born from the end of March through May and weigh a little over one pound at birth. Like domestic cats, their eyes remain closed for about a week and they begin to crawl 12 to 15 days after birth. Young Amur leopards have been reported to remain with their mother for up to two years. Amur leopards have been known to live for up to 21 years in captivity, though their lifespan in the wild is typically 10 to 15 years. Kuzmichstudio/Getty Images Conservation Status According to the World Wildlife Fund, Amur leopards received a safe haven in 2012 when the government of Russia declared a new protected area. Called Land of the Leopard National Park, this marked a major effort to save the world’s rarest cat. Extending nearly 650,000 acres it includes all of the Amur leopard’s breeding areas and about 60 percent of the critically endangered cat’s remaining habitat. In addition, conservationists have been successful in reducing illegal and unsustainable logging practices and facilitating trade between companies committed to responsible forestry practices. In 2007, WWF and other conservationists successfully lobbied the Russian government to reroute a planned oil pipeline that would have endangered the leopards habitat. The IUCN Species Survival Commission has considered Amur leopards  Critically Endangered (IUCN 1996)  since 1996. As of 2019, more than 84 individuals remain in the wild (mostly in protected areas) and 170 to 180 live in captivity. The primary causes for their low population are habitat destruction from commercial logging and farming from 1970 to 1983 and illegal poaching for fur over the last 40 years. Fortunately, conservation efforts by organizations like the World Wildlife Fund and the Amur Leopard and Tiger Alliance (ALTA) are working to recover the species from extinction. Threats Although human interference plays a key role in Amur leopards endangered status, their low level of genetic variation due to recent dwindling population size has led to many health complications including reduced fertility.   Habitat destruction:  Between 1970 and 1983, 80 percent of the Amur leopards habitat was lost due to logging, forest fires, and agricultural land conversion projects (this loss of habitat also affected the leopards prey species, which have become increasingly scarce as well).Human Conflict:  With less wild prey to hunt, leopards have gravitated to deer farms where they have been killed by farmers.Poaching:  The Amur leopard is illegally hunted for its fur, which is sold on the black market. Habitat loss has made it easier to locate and kill leopards within the past 40 years.Small Population Size:  The Amur leopards critically low population is at risk from disease or environmental catastrophes that could wipe out all remaining individuals.Lack of Genetic Variation:  Because there are so few individual leopards left in the wild, they are subject to inbreeding. Inbred offspring are prone to health problems, including reduced fertility which further reduces the populations cha nce of survival. Though these issues are being addressed and the number of Amur leopards has increased, the species is still considered to be critically endangered. Amur Leopards and Humans The Amur Leopard and Tiger Alliance (ALTA) works in close cooperation with local, regional, and federal organizations to protect the regions biological wealth through conservation, sustainable development, and local community involvement. They maintain four anti-poaching teams with a total of 15 members in the Amur leopard range, monitor the Amur leopard population through snow track counts and camera trap counts, restore leopard habitats, support ungulate recovery, and run a media campaign to create awareness about the Amur leopards plight. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has established anti-poaching teams and environmental education programs to increase appreciation for the leopard among local communities within the leopards range. WWF also implements programs to stop the traffic in Amur leopard parts and to increase the population of prey species in the leopards habitat such as the 2003 Forest Conservation Programme in the Russian Far East Ecoregion Complex, the 2007 lobbying effort to reroute a planned oil pipeline, and the 2012 establishment of a large refuge for Amur leopards, tigers, and other endangered species. On 31st August 2014, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee of China published a report on the 2017 Hong Kong Political Reform, setting the framework of the election method of the Hong Kong Chief Executive: 1,200 people would form a â€Å"broadly representative† election committee and nominate candidates whom 370,000 registered electors would vote for (4).While the pro-Beijing camp saw this as an enormous improvement over the 2012 election method – which the election committee nominates and elects the Chief Executive – the pan-democrats and many Hong Kong people deemed it a pseudo-universal suffrage and refused to accept it. The Hong Kong Federation of Students and Scholarism, a student activist group, initiated a school boycott and asked for nullifying the report. The boycott eventually led to the Umbrella Movement, a sit-in street protest, which lasted until December when the number of protesters decreased from over 100,000 to around 200 (Phil lips). While the Movement stirred up a storm of controversy, it is adequately justified as a response to the â€Å"August 31st Decision† because it satisfies all the conditions of an appropriate instance of civil disobedience, namely motivation, means, and consideration for consequence. Consider the motivation of the Movement. The primary cause is the Chinese Government decision on the election method for the Chief Executive. Protesters denounce it because they think it manifests social injustice. But what is social injustice? Google and Wikipedia can do the work for us. Communication I just watched the news last month and one of the headlines is that postal office, where we used to drop our snail mails are getting bankrupt because of technology. The tremendo us development in technology and the diversity in this industry have drastically changed the lifestyle of people in society. The progress in technology has good impacts as well as bad implications to people. In many ways, technology simplifies life, and it has many beneficial effects to the community and the human condition. On the other hand, the result of the technological progress has brought many complications to our lives. However, the negative and positive effects of technology depends completely on people’s exposure to it and the use that they give it. To begin, the enormous progress in technology is responsible for the great forward revolution in the fields of agriculture, manufacturing, warfare, transportation, information, medicine, communication and so on. The mass media, for instance, is one of the most representative areas. We have radio, television, telephones, Internet, and every other device that will fit in the palm of the hand. Another example is the technological advance in the area of medicine that has introduced the latest tools to improve quality patient care. Furthermore, technology plays an important role in international trade because the world market has been globalizing by it. In other words, the most important contribution of technology to society is making the lives of common people much easier and helping them achieve what was previously not possible. On the other hand, the huge development in technology has also complicated life, and it has many negative effects on people. First of all, the new technology in mass media changes cultural values and social behaviors by spreading ideas, values, behavior patterns within a society and among different groups. Some technologies also have negative effects on the environment, such as pollution, and lack of sustainability because they are designed to economic effects only. The new forms of entertainment, such as Internet, and video games have serious effects on children and adults causing obesity, laziness, and loss of personality. In addition, through the Internet, the pornographic and gambling industries have been introduced for the various web sites. Therfore, the consequences of the technological advance does not only affect the people it also affect the planet. As a matter in fact, technology has been part of life on the earth since the advent of the human species like language, rituals, commerce, and the arts. Technology is an intrinsic part of human culture and it shapes society as well as is shaped by society. However, the positive or negative effect of technology on society will depend on the choices that people make. These choices between increasing technology include, rising to consumer demands, products channels of distribution, and people’s ability to gain these products with ease. Other effects of technology are beliefs regarding to freedom of choice, materialism, consumerism, and the utilization of technologies just as people requests. To illustrate, technology could be used to maintain, prolong, or terminate a life depend on the patient’s desire. Therefore, the difference in a person attitude towards technology is dependent on that person’s exposure to it rather that the notion she/he has of it. In conclusion, the technologies available to people greatly influence how their lives are as well as people have influence on technology’s development and how it is used. Indeed, the industrial revolution is still underway changing patterns of work and bringing with it the economic and social consequences. Lord Of The Flies Description Essays - English-language Films, Films

Lord Of The Flies Description Setting The story takes place on an island somewhere in the ocean. The island is described by the author as tropical and boat shaped. Along the coast there are sandy beaches followed by a variety of vegetation and creepers. There are also the orchards, which rise up to the treeless and rocky and rugged mountain ridge which extends out of the ocean. Judging from the predicament and dialogue in this story the date in which it takes place is probably the mid 1900's during World War II. The mood created in this story is very complex and rapidly changing. It changes from that of a scary, recessive mood to a light, and cheery one. The way in which the story is written the mood can change literally from chapter to chapter. In the beginning it starts out light and happy and as the novel progresses and the boys start to battle, it starts to become dark and savage. Characters Jack is red-headed and thin he is also introduced as the leader of the boys' choir. To his dismay he loses the election for leader and he becomes the head hunter and is also in charge of maintaining the signal fire. As the story progresses he and his hunters begin to slack-off and abandon their duties in caring for the fire. In the end Jack and his hunters leave Ralph and start their own tribe on the rocky side of the island. Ralph is a tall, blond and is one of the oldest boys on the island. In the beginning of the story he is pictured as the leader of the boys when he blows the conch shell to call the first assembly. During the course of the story he tries to maintain the structure of their civilization and is continually forced to compete with Jack for approval from the boys. Piggy is a fat, asthmatic boy with bad vision. Throughout the story his weaknesses are preyed upon by the other boys much like that of the pigs on the island, thus the name. But despite his appearance, Ralph begins to depend upon Piggy for intellectual and spiritual guidance. Do to his vision, Piggy had unusually thick glasses, which was a benefit to the others on the island, and aided in the lighting of the signal fire and in the roasting of the pigs. Simon was a skinny, silent boy with black hair. He was neither liked nor hated and was abnormally silent throughout the story. The way he is portrayed in the story it is as if he were always contemplating life and his situation on the island. Aside from thinking, Simon also does the necessary chores and obeys all commands from his superiors. Exposition The story starts with a large group of boys crawl on to the beach of a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Their plane was been shot down, and World War II has begun to take place. The boys figure that civilization, as they know it, may no longer exist. Ralph is elected as the leader of the group and Jack decides to be the hunter and provide food for the group. The boys explore the island. They find that it is hard to believe that they're really on their own but their adventuring proves their suspicion. While adventuring Jack's first try at slaying a wild boar fails. Rising Action Another assembly is had and they talk about the need for hunters. One of the smaller boys, says he fears a horrid beast that he saw in the vast jungle. The fear of the beast, of the dark, and of what is unknown about the island begins to affect the boys' ways of thinking. Ralph makes an executive decision and convinces everyone that they need a signal fire to aid in their being rescued. Starting a fire is impossible until they use Piggy's glasses, they are so thick they act as a magnifying glass, igniting the tinder. To Ralph's dismay the boys begin to abandon the fire to play, finding it hard work keeping the fire going. Their fears of the terrifying beast grow worse when the twins, Sam and Eric, see the beast once again. This is

The Dimensions of the Self Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

The Dimensions of the Self - Essay Example To summarize my identity is not easy, but in essence, I am a Middle-Eastern, male, middle-class Muslim, Emirati, young adult, who supports racial equality and enjoys talking about politics, business, society, and food. When asked about my ethnicity, I see myself as a national of the UAE, an Emirati. Some people find their ethnicity very important in distinguishing themselves from others in their own country, but I do not feel that way. Some non-UAE people might see me immediately as Arabic or Middle Eastern, but those descriptions are too vague for me. I dislike it when they stereotype me as a sexist because they think all Arabs are anti-women. This is not true because I believe that men and women are created equal in the eyes of God. Most of all, I see myself as an Emirati. Emiratis are known for their hospitality. In my family, we feel honored when we receive guests and socialize with our relatives and friends. In our house, it is common to have visitors dropping by. Family relativ es drop unannounced frequently because my mother is such as a gracious host and a good friend to them. Sometimes, this is good because we are updated about the events about the clan. Their presence can be very refreshing, as they bring their stories and humor to us. Other times, I feel no privacy. My family can be very intrusive at times, but I know this is because they want the best life for me. When our guests are in the house, we enjoy time with them, while drinking coffee or tea and eating sandwiches and fresh dates. My mother is a fantastic cook and baker, so she would invite them to lunch or dinner too. They love my mother’s Al Majboos (beef or chicken recipe) and Al Khabeesah (dessert), as well as her gourmet sandwiches. Maybe they come more for my mother’s great dishes. Though the banter can be so noisy, at the same time, they seem to be so peaceful. These are the voices of my blood and they are my soul too. My ethnicity affects me because it is the basis of my culture. My elders teach me what is right and wrong- the right clothes, the right attitudes at the right places and with the right people, and the right words to say to men, women, and children. They say this because it is Emirati and it is Muslim. They are the sources of our norms. To some people, our norms, especially for women, are very restrictive. But I believe that some conservative values protect men and women alike. As long as women can still access the same quality of life as men, conservative attitudes are not wrong. My age group is a young adult and that affects me as a person too because I am expected to make mature decisions as a student and as a man and to be prepared for family life. Right now, I have the privilege of the youth. My parents are lenient with my activities, as long as I have good grades in school and remain focused on my studies. Of course, they also want me to be a dedicated Muslim, wherever I may be. In addition, my age is the time when people prepare them for arranged marriages. My family still practices arranged marriages, but they do not force their children and relatives to marry strangers nowadays. They are not concerned with how much they will get for these marriages, but they want me to marry an Emirati as well.

Ethics and Legal Professionals Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Ethics and Legal Professionals - Research Paper Example The second scenario is the fact that the prosecutor could be giving the jury misleading information so that the jury becomes convinced that the suspect is actually liable for the crimes that he is accused of having committed, and thus influence the jury to believe in the guilt of the suspect, which will in turn favor the prosecutor by enabling the jury to favor the conviction and charging of the suspect as guilty. Therefore, the jury is faced with the dilemma of choosing who to believe between the prosecutor and the judge and thus is torn between following the judge’s direction and following the information given by the prosecutor. The choice of whether to believe the prosecutor or to stick to the judge’s direction forms the ethical dilemma. The resolution of this ethical dilemma is complex since it entails the application of the relevant laws, which guide the conduct of professionals in the judicial system (Pollock, 2012). Legal professionals are required by the laws t o conduct their activities regarding the cases before a court of law in accordance with the guidance of the code of conduct of the legal professionals. According to the provisions of the code of conduct for legal professional, any legal professional handling a case before a court of law is prohibited from engaging in any form of discussion regarding the case with any side of the case, outside the courtroom (Beauchamp, Arnold & Bowie, 2009). Therefore, any discussion undertaken outside the courtroom with either the prosecution or the defense side is against the conduct of the legal professionals. Therefore, while the information provided by the prosecutor to the jury could be true and thus helpful to the determination of the case at hand, the manner in which it is obtained is against the provisions of the code of conduct of the professionals (Siegel & Worrall, 2013). Therefore, resolving this ethical dilemma requires the jury to adhere to the necessary code of conduct and ignore all the information that is obtained from one-sided party to the case outside the courtroom since the individual may be interested in misleading the jury and thus have his stance favored. Therefore, the ethical dilemma can be resolved through adhering to the guidelines offered by the judge and ignoring all the information obtained outside the courtroom. The system of ethics that I would most likely employ is the law enforcement code of ethics. This system of ethics provides that the fundamental function of a law enforcement officer, including the police, the prosecutor, the judge and the jury, is to serve mankind while at the same time protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression (Siegel, 2010). This system of ethics requires the legal professionals to conduct themselves in a manner that respects the constitutional rights of all individuals to liberty and justice. The legal professionals are also required to observe honesty and be mindful of the welfare of t he others, including that of the suspects, under the law enforcement code of ethics (Pollock, 2012). The legal professionals are also required to obey the laws of the land and ensure that they adhere to

A brief review of my motivation-hygiene theory of job attitudes is required before theoretical and practical suggestions can be offered. The theory was first drawn from an examination of events in the lives of engineers and accountants. At least 16 other investigations, using a wide variety of populations (including some in the Communist countries), have since been completed, making the original research one of the most replicated studies in the field of job attitudes. The findings of these studies, along with corroboration from many other investigations using different procedures, suggest that the factors involved in producing job satisfaction (and motivation) are separate and distinct from the factors that lead to job dissatisfaction. Since separate factors need to be considered, depending on whether job satisfaction or job dissatisfaction is being examined, it follows that these two fee lings are not opposites of each other. The opposite of job satisfaction is not job dissatisfaction but, rather, no job satisfaction; and similarly, the opposite of job dissatisfaction is not job satisfaction, but no job dissatisfaction. Stating the concept presents a problem in semantics, for we normally think of satisfaction and dissatisfaction as opposites i.e., what is not satisfying must be dissatisfying, and vice versa. But when it comes to understanding the behavior of people in their jobs, more than a play on words is involved. Two different needs of human beings are involved here. One set of needs can be thought of as stemming from humankinds animal nature the built-in drive to avoid pain from the environment, plus all the learned drives that become conditioned to the basic biological needs. For example, hunger, a basic biological drive, makes it necessary to earn money, and then money becomes a specific drive. The other set of needs relates to that unique human characteristic, the ability to achieve and, through achievement, to experience psychological growth; in the industrial setting, they are the job content. Contrariwise, the stimuli inducing painavoidance behavior are found in the job environment. The growth or motivator factors that are intrinsic to the job are: achievement, recognition for achievement, the work itself, responsibility, and growth or advancement. The dissatisfaction avoidance or hygiene (KITA) factors that are extrinsic to the job include: company policy and administration, supervision, interpersonal relationships, working conditions, salary, status, and security. A composite of the factors that are involved in causing job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction, drawn from samples of 1,685 employees, is shown in the figure Factors Affecting Job Attitudes below. The results indicate that motivators were the primary cause of satisfaction, and hygiene factors the primary cause of unhappiness on the job. The employees, studied in 12 different investigations, included lower level supervisors, professional women, agricultural administrators, men about to retire from management positions, hospital maintenance personnel, manufacturing supervisors, nurses, food handlers, military officers, engineers, scientists, housekeepers, teachers, technicians, female assemblers, accountants, Finnish foremen, and Hungarian engineers. They were asked what job events had occurred in their work that had led to extreme satisfaction or extreme dissatisfaction their part. Their responses are broken down in the exhibit into percentages of total positive job events and of total negative job events. (The figures total more than 100% on both the hygiene and motivators sides because often at least two factors can be attributed to a single event; advancement, for instance, often accompanies assumption of responsibility.) To illustrate, a typical response involving achievement that had a negative effect for the employee was, I was unhappy because I didnt do the job successfully. A typical response in the small number of positive job events in the company policy and administration grouping was, I was happy because the company reorganized the section so that I didnt report any longer to the guy I didnt get along with. As the lower right-hand part of the figure shows, of all the factors contributing to job satisfaction, 81% were motivators. And of all the factors contributing to the employees dissatisfaction over their work, 69% involved hygiene elements. The term job enrichment describes this embryonic movement. An older term, job enlargement, should be avoided because it is associated with past failures stemming from a misunderstanding of the problem. Job enrichment provides the opportunity for the employees psychological growth, while job enlargement merely makes a job structurally bigger. Since scientific job enrichment is very new, this article only suggests the principles and practical steps that have recently emerged from several successful experiments in industry. Maslows Hierarchy of Needs Abraham Maslow developed the Hierarchy of Needs model in 1940-50s USA, and the Hierarchy of Needs theory remains valid today for understanding human motivation, management training, and personal development. Indeed, Maslows ideas surrounding the Hierarchy of Needs concerning the responsibility of employers to provide a workplace environment that encourages and enables employees to fulfil their own unique potential (self-actualization) are today more relevant than ever. Abraham Maslows book Motivation and Personality, published in 1954 (second edition 1970) introduced the Hierarchy of Needs, and Maslow extended his ideas in other work, notably his later book Toward A Psychology Of Being, a significant and relevant commentary, which has been revised in recent times by Richard Lowry, who is in his own right a leading academic in the field of motivational psychology. Abraham Maslow was born in New York in 1908 and died in 1970, although various publications appear in Maslows name in later years. Maslows PhD in psychology in 1934 at the University of Wisconsin formed the basis of his motivational research, initially studying rhesus monkeys. Maslow later moved to New Yorks Brooklyn College. Maslows original five-stage Hierarchy of Needs model is clearly and directly attributable to Maslow; later versions with added motivational stages are not so clearly attributable. Maslows Hierarchy of Needs has been extended through interpretation of Maslows work by other people, and these augmented models and diagrams are shown as the adapted seven and eight-stage Hierarchy of Needs models below. There is some uncertainty as to how and when these additional three stages (six, seventh and eighth Cognitive, Aesthetic, and Transcendence) came to be added, and by whom, to the Hierarchy of Needs model, and many people consider Maslows original five-stage Hierarchy Of Needs model to be the definitive (and perfectly adequate) concept. Each of us is motivated by needs. Our most basic needs are inborn, having evolved over tens of thousands of years. Abraham Maslows Hierarchy of Needs helps to explain how these needs motivate us all. Maslows Hierarchy of Needs states that we must satisfy each need in turn, starting with the first, which deals with the most obvious needs for survival itself. Only when the lower order needs of physical and emotional well-being are satisfied are we concerned with the higher order needs of influence and personal development. Conversely, if the things that satisfy our lower order needs are swept away, we are no longer concerned about the maintenance of our higher order needs. Maslows original Hierarchy of Needs model was developed between 1943-1954, and first widely published in Motivation and Personality in 1954. At this time the Hierarchy of Needs model comprised five needs. This original version remains for most people the definitive Hierarchy of Needs. 1. Biological and Physiological needs air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc. 2. Safety needs protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc. 3. Belongingness and Love needs work group, family, affection, relationships, etc. 4. Esteem needs self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc. 5. Self-Actualization needs realising personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences. Abraham Maslow created the original five level Hierarchy of Needs model, and for many this remains entirely adequate for its purpose. The seven and eight level hierarchy of needs models are later adaptations by others. Arguably, the original five-level model includes the later additional sixth, seventh and eighth (Cognitive, Aesthetic, and Transcendence) levels within the original Self-Actualization level 5, since each one of the new motivators concerns an area of self-development and self-fulfilment that is rooted in self-actualization growth, and is distinctly different to any of the previous 1-4 level deficiency motivators. For many people, self-actualizing commonly involves each and every one of the newly added drivers. As such, the original five-level Hierarchy of Needs model remains a definitive classical representation of human motivation; and the later adaptations pMaslows Hierarchy of Needs is an excellent model for understanding human motivation, but it is a broad concept. If you are puzzled as to how to relate given behaviour to the Hierarchy it could be that your definition of the behaviour needs refining. For example, where does doing things for fun fit into the model? The answer is that it cant until you define doing things for fun more accurately. Youd need to define more precisely each given situation where a person is doing things for fun in order to analyse motivation according to Maslows Hierarchy, since the fun activity motive can potentially be part any of the five original Maslow needs. Understanding whether striving to achieve a particular need or aim is fun can provide a helpful basis for identifying a Maslow driver within a given behaviour, and thereby to assess where a particular behaviour fits into the modelerhaps serve best to illustrate aspects of self-actualization. Michael Carey makes a strong statement about the role of individuals and teams within a growing organization. All entrepreneurial businesses need the drive and vision of one individual to make them happen; but Ive never seen a successful business that solely depends on one person to be successful. Recognizing and accepting the necessity for change is an important step in successful management. Quantitative research process involves the result of a certain procedure. The type of qualitative research studies undertaken are ethnographical, which refers to the description of a phenomenon from a cultural group or society, grounded theory, which focuses on real life settings and phenomenological which describes different experiences.   Quantitative research is used to identify the specific effect which leads to using statistical evidence and appropriate statistical tools. It is also used for intervention studies and randomized control trials, which is the gold standard, observational and cohort studies. The quantitative approach is applicable to smaller sample group to generate rich data.   Hopkins (2008) defined quantitative research method in the following words,   In quantitative research your aspire is to settle on the relationship flanked by one thing (an independent variable) and another (a dependent or outcome variable) in a population.
